Our History

Blessed Sacrament parish was founded as a Mission in 1923. It remained a mission, cared for by priests from St. Bernard's, Snake Run until the arrival of the first resident pastor, Father Francis Bauer, in 1947. The "mission" years of the parish, like those of every new-born parish were times of many trials and struggles. Spiritual and financial worries occupied the minds of priests and people alike.

Over the period of years the parish acquired and sold several pieces of territory until the year 1947 when steps were taken to develop and stabilize conditions. A house was purchased and parishioners and pastor formed it into the parish rectory. With the coming of the first resident pastor advancement, slow but sure, began.

In early 1952 plans were formulated for a building fund program which was to have a new church as its immediate objective. With the generous aid of a great number of benefactors from outside the parish and with the help of pledges on the part of parishioners themselves progress began in a steady way. It was not too long before a new site was approved by the most Reverend Bishop, and some months later plans were drawn up for a new Blessed Sacrament Church.

Building began in the fall of 1954 and was dedicated on May 22, 1955. Click here to see the Dedication Booklet.
